|Ferrari has plans for a harder, more extreme version of its 488 GTB, which could be called the 488 GTO. With a sharp cut in weight and a power hike to around 700bhp, it will launch even faster than the 720S, taking 7.5 seconds to pass 124mph. |
The Gran Turismo Omologato name has also been used on the 599 GTO and the legendary 250 GTO, to say nothing of the Pontiacs that “borrowed” it as well. A stripped-out cockpit and thinner glass would help cut down on weight, with a beefed-up suspension and brakes. The 0-62 time falls from three seconds flat in the GTB to about 2.7 in the GTO.
|The Ferrari 488 GTB is being comprehensively re-engineered into a hardcore, track-focused variant that will go toe to toe with the Porsche 911 GT2 RS. The car will essentially be a replacement to the discontinued 458 Speciale.|
The track-focused Ferrari 488 GTO is expected to launch next year with its 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 upgraded to deliver an addtional 30 – 50-hp
